      Siddhantic Proof: Madhyama (Mean Motions) v.40

      Sanskrit (Devanagari):

      सूर्यैन्दुभगणेभ्योऽन्ये तिथीनां समुदाहृताः । संशान्तिकालविच्छेदादधिमासाः प्रकीर्तिताः ॥

      Translation (Burgess):

      The intercalary months originate from the solar/lunar revolution difference.

      Modern Technical Commentary:

      Explains the Adhika Masa (Leap Month) logic. Since the lunar year (~354 days) is shorter than the solar year (~365 days), an extra month is added roughly every 32.5 months to keep the calendar synchronized with the seasons.
