    Siddhantic Proof: Grahas-Yuti (Eclipses) v.1

    Sanskrit (Devanagari):

    सार्धानि षट्‌ सहस्राणि योजनानि विवस्वतः । अशीत्यधिकं चतुःशतं योजनानि चन्द्रस्य ॥

    Translation (Burgess):

    The diameter of the Sun's disk is 6,500 yojanas; that of the Moon, 480 yojanas.

    Modern Technical Commentary:

    These physical diameters are used to calculate angular sizes. By dividing these yojana values by the planet's instantaneous distance (Karna), the Siddhanta derives the angular diameter necessary for eclipse contact calculations.
